Miss International Visits Philippine Embassy in Tokyo
Miss Bea Rose Santiago, the new Miss International, paid a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez and Madame Maria Teresa L. Lopez at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo on 18 December 2013, a day after she successfully represented the Philippines at the Miss International 2013 Beauty Pageant held at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo.
Ambassador Lopez congratulated Miss Santiago on her victory, adding that he was impressed with her composure and reply to the question directed to the five finalists of the pageant. When asked what she would do if she becomes Miss International, Miss Santiago said, “The whole world saw how my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. I would like to thank those who helped my country in our darkest hours. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other. If I become Miss International, I will uphold international camaraderie. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope.’
Miss Santiago, who was born in Masbate and is now 23 years old, dedicated her participation in the Miss International Pageant to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) which struck the Philippines on 8 November 2013. She bested more than 60 other candidates from around the world.
