Social Security System (SSS) Office
The Social Security System (SSS) is a Philippine state-run pension fund that provides social security protection to workers in the private sector, including those in the professional and informal sectors. Guided by its mandate to promote social justice through savings, the SSS ensures meaningful social security protection for its members and their beneficiaries against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death, and other contingencies that may result in loss of income or financial burden.
With the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the SSS Japan Office was formally opened in Tokyo on October 27, 2025. This significant milestone not only strengthened the pension fund’s presence abroad but also made its programs and services more accessible to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and other kababayans residing in Japan. For the past decade, a steady growth in Filipino population in Japan has been observed – from approximately 210,000 individuals in 2014, the number of Filipinos residing in Japan increased to 330,000 in 2024. To date, the SSS Japan Office is one of 21 SSS foreign offices worldwide and one of five (5) located in the Asia and Pacific region.
