Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano Meets The Honorable Takuya Tasso, Governor of Iwate Prefecture
01 December 2023 – Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano paid a courtesy call on the honorable Takuya Tasso, Governor of Iwate Prefecture, on her first visit to Iwate Prefecture.
During the meeting, Ambassador Garcia-Albano thanked the Governor for Iwate’s hospitality towards the 1,355 Filipinos living in the prefecture as well as ensuring their safety and well-being. The Governor thanked the Ambassador for the Philippines’ support in the recovery of Iwate after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
Ambassador Garcia-Albano and Governor Tasso further discussed ways to strengthen Philippine-Japan relations through agricultural cooperation and stronger cultural exchange between Iwate and the Philippines.
On 02 December 2023, Ambassador Garcia-Albano met with the Filipino community in Iwate during the Embassy’s outreach mission to the prefecture. She spoke of the various services of the Embassy and reminded the Filipinos in Iwate that the Embassy is here to assist them. Filipinos from Akita, Miyagi and Tokyo joined the Filipino community event.
The outreach mission was able to serve 44 Filipinos in Iwate, through Passport and Notarial services, Civil Registry consultations and Overseas Voter’s registration.
The Migrant Workers Office – Overseas Workers Welfare Association (MWO-OWWA Tokyo) joined the mission to provide information and advice to overseas Filipino workers. The Tourism Office likewise joined the mission to promote its Bisita Be My Guest (BBMG) program to invite tourists to the Philippines.
