Ambassador Lopez Urges Hitachi Ltd. to Expand in the Philippines
30 September 2014 – Ambassador of the Philippines to Japan Manuel M. Lopez called on Hitachi Ltd., to choose the Philippines as its long-term partner in its future plans in the region.
In a speech delivered during Hitachi’s Philippine Committee, a company-wide seminar-forum on the Philippines, Ambassador Lopez outlined the economic gains of the Aquino administration before approximately 60 Hitachi executives and personnel from various divisions and units. He presented the Philippines as a high-growth country with solid economic fundamentals, an investor-friendly environment, and a young and talented workforce that can help enhance the company’s profitability.
From consumer electronics to industrial-grade machinery and high-technology devices, Hitachi is a major force in the global electronics industry, and has a significant presence in the Philippines through its plants in Subic and Cavite.
Citing the electronics giant’s expanding global reach, current presence in the Philippines, and reputation for quality and innovation, Ambassador Lopez remarked that Hitachi has barely scratched the surface of the potential of its relationship with the Philippines. He highlighted the Philippines’ comparative advantages in business process management (BPM), manufacturing, and renewable energy—high-growth areas where Hitachi can expand its operations in the Philippines. The Ambassador also reiterated the continuing commitment of the Aquino administration to institutionalize governance reforms, upgrade infrastructure, and facilitate doing business.
The presentation before the management and staff of Hitachi Ltd. is part of the Embassy’s continuing advocacy to heighten awareness of the Philippines as an attractive investment site among major Japanese multinational business community in Tokyo. – END
