Ambassador Laurel Congratulates 2017 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, Professor Ishizawa
23 August 2017 – Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V welcomed to the Embassy and congratulated Professor Yoshiaki Ishizawa, one of this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Awardees.
Professor Ishizawa, former President of Sophia University and Director of the Asia Center for Research and Human Development, will be awarded Asia’s Nobel Peace Prize, the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, after fifty years of working with Cambodians and international organizations to generate awareness and support for the protection and conservation of Cambodia’s living monument, Angkor Wat.
In electing Professor Ishizawa to receive the 2017 Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Ramon Magsaysay Awards Foundation Board of Trustees recognized the Professor’s “selfless, steadfast service to the Cambodian people, his inspring leadership in empowering Cambodians to be proud stewards of their heritage, and his wisdom in reminding us all that cultural monuments like the Angkor Wat are shared treasures whose preservation is thus, also our shared global responsibility.” (www.rmaward.asia) END
