Ambassador Garcia-Albano Underscores Importance of Entrepreneurship in Nation-Building
The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, together with the Asian Consulting Group (ACG), co-organized a tax and investment briefing targeted at both Filipinos and Japanese nationals who wish to invest and start a business in the Philippines on 21 June 2023. Mr. Mon Abrea, Founding Chairman and Chief Tax Advisor of ACG, served as the main speaker.
In her remarks, Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia Albano encouraged overseas Filipinos in Japan, most of whom are women, to consider the various opportunities available to them by being entrepreneurs themselves or investing their hard-earned money back to the Philippines. She highlighted the importance of MSMEs as a driver of economic growth, and the need to empower Filipinos, especially women, and contribute to nation-building.
Addressing the Japanese participants, Ambassador Albano underscored the strength of the Philippines’ economic performance based on stable macroeconomic fundamentals, adding that “now is the time to invest in the Philippines!”
In his presentation, Mr. Abrenica provided an overview of the Philippine economic landscape, explained about different investment options in the Philippines, and described how to start investing in the Philippines, including ways to avoid double taxation.
Inspiring the participants with her story as a celebrity and woman entrepreneur, Ms. Bea Binene shared some insights into how she started and grew her business, Mix & Brew, including overcoming several challenges that came her way.
During the Q&A session, both physical and online participants asked questions about starting a business in the Philippines, available tax incentives, as well as viable investment options for OFWs. There were more than 30 participants who attended the briefing physically. The briefing was also livestreamed and has already recorded a post reach of more than 11,500.
Asian Consulting Group (AGC) is a partner of the Center of Strategic Reforms (CSR) which serves as the official think tank of the Department of Trade and Industry and Bureau of Immigration. AGC and CSR launched the Tax and Investment International Roadshow in February 2023, and has since been held in Sydney, Berlin, Calgary, Singapore, Italy, the Middle East, and Hawaii.
