Building Future Across Borders: Philippines Shares Migrant Support Strategies at SPF Symposium
TOKYO, 25 June 2025 – The Philippine Embassy co-organized and participated in the “Symposium on Creating a Multicultural Society with Foreign Communities,” hosted by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) on 19 June 2025 in Tokyo, Japan. The Symposium featured cases from the Philippines, Nepal, and Uzbekistan to explore practical strategies for building a more inclusive society in Japan.
In her remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano underscored the human dimension of migration, stating, “Migration is more than just about moving people; it is about building lives, families, and futures across borders. With the compassion and cooperation of our partners, we can ensure that our people are not only welcomed, but also empowered to thrive.”
The Philippine Embassy in Japan works closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs-Office of Migrant Affairs, Commission on Filipinos Overseas, and the Department of Migrant Workers to provide practical support both pre-departure and upon arrival in Japan. It also maintains active collaboration with Filipino community leaders, local governments, and support organizations, together with the Consulates General in Osaka and Nagoya, and the Honorary Consulate in Hokkaido.
Since 2023, SPF has partnered with embassies, community organizations, and Japan’s Immigration Services Agency to conduct orientation programs for newly arrived foreign nationals from the Philippines, Nepal, and Uzbekistan. This initiative supports the Japanese Government’s 2022 Roadmap for the Realization of a Society of Harmonious Coexistence with Foreign Nationals, with a focus on accessible information and language assistance.
