Philippine Embassy and Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Renew Commitment to Safety of Filipinos in Japan

The Philippine Embassy in Japan received a courtesy call from Superintendent Shosuke Fujiyuki of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) on 23 January 2026 to explore opportunities in further strengthening cooperation to ensure the safety of Filipino nationals in Tokyo.
Consul General Mary Joy B. Ramirez welcomed Superintendent Fujiyuki to the Embassy, and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to cooperate with the TMPD in ensuring the safety of Filipino residents and addressing crime-related concerns in Tokyo.
As the Filipino community in Japan continues to grow, the TMPD engaged the Embassy in promoting awareness among Filipino nationals of local laws and safe, responsible conduct.
The TMPD also shared that it has launched its social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) to expand its engagement with local and foreign residents in Tokyo, as it actively provides information on safety reminders and law enforcement.
Consul General Ramirez expressed appreciation for the TMPD’s continued assistance in ensuring the safe and orderly conduct of the Embassy’s public events, including TMPD’s participation in the annual Philippine Festival Tokyo. She shared that the Embassy will undertake a series of activities throughout the year in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Philippines-Japan Diplomatic Relations.
There are 349,714 Filipinos residing in Japan as of 2024, underscoring the strength of people-to-people relations and the enduring partnership between the Philippines and Japan.
