PH Ambassador Meets Toyo Eiwa Students

TOKYO, 18 December 2025 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano visited Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin Primary School in Minato-ku, Tokyo on 04 December 2025 to meet with its students and faculty and to further promote cultural exchanges between Filipino and Japanese youth.
The school extended an invitation to the Ambassador to reciprocate the visit of Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin’s international exchange club students to the Philippine Embassy in Japan on 07 November 2025, during which they gained insights on Philippine language and culture.
Ambassador Garcia-Albano was warmly received by the school’s Principal, Mr. Taro YOSHIDA, and Director of International Programs Ms. Erina TSUBOTA, who facilitated a tour of the campus and school facilities, which were adorned with Philippine flags.

“I commend the school for nurturing global-mindedness among its young students and for creating meaningful international cultural exchange opportunities,” Ambassador Garcia-Albano said during the school visit.
Ambassador Garcia-Albano observed the Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin students during their classes and extracurricular activities, and shared a meal with them during their lunch break. The students welcomed her with enthusiasm and greeted her with Filipino phrases they had learned during their visit to the Embassy the previous month.
Ambassador Garcia-Albano expressed optimism about deepening engagements with Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin to further promote learning, friendship, and mutual respect between Filipino and Japanese youth. The Philippine Embassy and Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin are neighbors in Minato-ku’s bustling Roppongi district, providing opportunities for collaboration.
At the conclusion of the school visit, the Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin students gave handwritten letters to the Ambassador and her delegation to express their appreciation for her support for the school’s cultural exchange initiatives.
Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin is an all-girls Christian school established in 1884 by Martha J. Cartmell, a Canadian Methodist missionary. The school offers kindergarten, primary and secondary education, as well as higher education (high school, college, and graduate school), with emphasis on English language instruction and Christian-based curriculum.
