TOKYO, 14 October 2025 – As part of her continuing efforts to strengthen the Philippine Embassy’s collaboration with the Filipino Community in Japan, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano hosted a gathering of Japan-based alumni from various Philippine universities on 09 October 2025 at the Ambassador’s Official Residence.
“I hope we can formally establish or reinvigorate Japan-based alumni associations of Philippine universities. You can serve not only as channels of communication for our universities and support networks for school-based groups visiting Japan, but also as vital partners in strengthening people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Japan. More importantly, you represent a powerful platform for empowering and uplifting Filipinos in Japan,” underscored Ambassador Garcia-Albano during the gathering’s open discussion.
The event brought together alumni from the Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Mapua University, the University of the Philippines, and the University of Santo Tomas, representing a range of professional fields including engineering, law, information technology, and education.
During the exchanges, the alumni expressed strong interest in partnering with the Embassy to implement initiatives that would benefit the Filipino Community in Japan and foster closer people-to-people linkages, especially as the Philippines and Japan prepare to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic relations in 2026.
This alumni gathering is envisioned as the first in a series of initiatives to deepen the Embassy’s engagement and cooperation with the university-based segment of the Filipino Community in Japan.
