Philippine Nikke-jin Jose Takei Visits The Philippine Embassy in Japan

TOKYO, 15 August 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo welcomed Mr. Jose Takei, an 82-year-old man of Japanese descent from the Philippines, during his visit to Japan from 7 to 10 August 2025, facilitated by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Acting Consul General Mary Joy B. Ramirez conveyed the Embassy’s support for Mr. Takei’s efforts to reconnect with his Japanese relatives and pursue Japanese citizenship.

Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano stated, “It is a privilege to meet Mr. Takei and share in his journey to reconnect with his Japanese heritage. We admire his courage and perseverance in honoring his roots, and reaffirm our commitment to support the Nikkei-jin community.”

While in Japan, Mr. Takei visited his father’s grave in Osaka and filed his application for Japanese nationality with the Tokyo Family Court. END
