Filipino Community in Japan Gathers for Sports Fest 2024
Tokyo, Japan – The Philippine Embassy in Japan, through the Migrant Workers Office-OWWA Tokyo (MWO-OWWA Tokyo), and the Samahan ng Nagkakaisang Filipinos sa Japan (Gathering of United Filipinos), successfully hosted a two-day sports fest on 14-15 September 2024 in Tokyo. The event saw 450 attendees on the first day and 520 on the second.
Participants competed in various sports, including basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, marathon, walkathon, and tug-of-war. The Philippine Embassy in Japan also fielded a basketball and a volleyball team at the event.
Students of Azabu Elementary School led the singing of the Philippine National Anthem during the opening ceremony of Sports Fest 2024.
Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano commended the organizers and participants. She stated, “Sports Fest 2024 highlights the strong community spirit among Filipinos in Japan. It is heartening to see our kababayans come together to promote health, teamwork, and camaraderie, all while celebrating our vibrant culture.”
The first part of Sports Fest 2024 was held on 30 June 2024 at Kinshi Park, Sumida, Tokyo. END
