Tokyo, 21 June 2010. Former President Fidel V. Ramos visited the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo on 18 June 2010 to share with the leaders of the Filipino community and Philippine Media in Japan his views on the post-election situation in the Philippines. As part of the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation’s continuing book-donation program, he also donated some 30 books on Philippine history, culture, government, economy and foreign relations to the Philippine Embassy. The books were received on behalf of Ambassador Domingo L. Siazon, Jr. by Minister Gina A. Jamoralin. A press conference preceded the dialogue with the Filipino community.

The Former President arrived in Tokyo on 17 June to participate in a meeting of the Council of Senior Advisors of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP). He is a member of the IAUP Senior Advisors Council, which provides guidance and advice on issues related to collaboration and interaction among universities, industry, government and civil society. Other members of the Council include President Jose Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Amnuay Virawan and Dr. Shuzaburo Takeda of Japan.

During his five-day visit, President Ramos also met with Japanese public and private sector figures such as Former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, former Diet members Taro Nakayama and Keizo Takemi, Nikkei Chairman Ryoki Sugita and Soka University President Dr. Hideo Yamamoto. President Ramos donated a set of books to the Soka University. He noted that his visit to the university on 19 June coincided with the birthday of the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, whose bronze bust is displayed prominently within the university.
