Philippine Ambassador Presents Credentials, Undertakes Working Visit to the Marshall Islands

10 October 2024 – Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano presented her credentials to President Hilda Heine of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) on 9 October 2024 at ICC Building, Delap Village in Majuro.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Garcia-Albano conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to President Heine and the Marshallese people.

As part of the Ambassador’s working visit to RMI, she met with several cabinet officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kalani Kaneko; Minister of Natural Resources and Commerce Tony Muller; Minister of Justice, Immigration and Labor Wisely Zackhras; Minister of Education, Sports and Training Joe Bejang; and members of the Council of Iroij. During these discussions, she reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to pursue the collaborative initiatives outlined in the meeting between President Marcos Jr. and President Heine last 7 March in Manila, as well as explored new avenues of cooperation. She also separately met with U.S. Ambassador Laura Stone and Japanese Ambassador Kazunari Tanaka to discuss their experience as resident ambassadors in RMI.

“I am excited and optimistic about the future of our bilateral relations with the Marshall Islands. Our nations share many advocacies and aspirations, and I believe that only by strengthening our cooperation in sectors such as education, health, fisheries, and climate action, can we unlock the vast potential for mutual growth,” stated Ambassador Garcia-Albano.

In her meeting with members of the Filipino community, the Ambassador expressed her eagerness to intensify engagements and implement programs to enhance the welfare of Filipinos in the RMI.

The Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Marshall Islands established diplomatic relations on 15 September 1988. There are approximately 1,200 Filipinos, mostly professionals, residing in RMI.

Apart from the Marshall Islands, Ambassador Garcia-Albano is also the accredited non-resident Ambassador of the Philippines to Palau and Micronesia. END
