Seek Evidence and Truth In Your Craft, Philippine Embassy in Tokyo Exhorts Young Filipino Media Practitioners Visiting Japan
A group of 15 young Filipino journalists and media practitioners, hailing from all regions of the Philippines, are visiting Japan for one week to learn best practice in infrastructure and to experience cultural activities. The program entitled “Youth Exchange for Media Industry” is hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE). Their familiarization and learning tour took them and young Indonesian journalists to several localities in Japan to experience both tradition and modernity of Japan. They observed disaster preparedness in Japan, received lectures on urban transport and traffic management in Japan, and visited cultural sites in the country.
During their presentation of findings, Philippine Embassy Minister Evangeline Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq sat in a panel to review their output. Referring to the present generation as “the most empowered generation”, and comparing the struggles of different generations in practicing journalism and seeking information and truth, Minister Ducrocq exhorted the young journalists to always seek truth from evidence as they practice their craft. She also thanked JICE for giving young Filipino journalists the opportunity and the platform to create stories through first-hand experience.
The two teams from the Philippines and Indonesia are in Japan under the framework of Jenesys 2018, a program that promotes people-to-people exchanges between the ASEAN countries and Japan.
