Pushing For Closer Philippine Relations with Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan
Host to the Tsukuba Space Center, with whom the Philippines has collaborated for the launches of its micro and nano-satellites, Ibaraki Prefecture officials called on the Embassy to exchange views about deepening cooperation and relations.
Deputy Chief of Mission Eduardo Menez and Minister Evangeline Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq received Messrs. Kazuhiro Yaguchi, Executive Director of External Affairs Bureau, Tokyo Office of Ibaraki Prefectural Government, Shinichi Watahiki, Director, to discuss areas of possible collaboration, tourism and investments. Seeking to expand on current relations and cooperation agreements that have been concluded with the private sector, Ibaraki officials are keen to meet new partners to leverage that prefecture’s strengths and assets. Given Ibaraki’s strong position as a leading center of R&D in Japan, DCM Menez pointed out how the Philippines and Filipino companies should take a second look at Ibaraki for their requirements and development.
Filipinos are the second biggest group of foreigners in Ibaraki. The prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, is directly accessible by air and rail links.
