SECRETARY SILVESTRE H. BELLO III OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT (DOLE) HAS DIRECTED THAT THE ISSUANCE OF THE OVERSEAS EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATE (OEC) FOR ALL DIRECTLY HIRED OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS (OFWS) IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
DOLE ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO. 155 SERIES OF 2017 SIGNED BY SECRETARY BELLO ON 25 APRIL 2017 STATES THAT “IN THE INTEREST OF JUSTICE AND IN VIEW OF THE VARIOUS REPORTS THAT SOME EMPLOYEES OF THE PHILIPPINE OVERSEAS EMPLOYMENT ADMINISTRATION (POEA) EXTORT MONEY IN EXCHANGE FOR THE RELEASE OF THE OVERSEAS EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATE (OEC), THE PROCESSING AND ISSUANCE OF OEC FOR ALL DIRECTLY HIRED OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS (OFW) IS HEREBY SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER ORDERS.”
