Trafficked persons
Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force, or other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power, or a position of vulnerability, or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation.
For these type of cases, the Embassy can:
- assist victims through interview and counseling, coordination with Japanese authorities and other stakeholders;
- provide or coordinate the provision of consular services such as issuance of passport and travel documents, civil registration, and notarization services; and
- coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), and the Japanese Police for emergency cases.
