The  Philippine Embassy in Tokyo received a pledge from <strong>Sumitomo Metal Mining Co.,  Ltd (SMM) <\/strong>for a<strong> \u00a510 million<\/strong> (approximately P5 million) donation as humanitarian assistance for those severely affected by Typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p><em>Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires<\/em> Gina Jamoralin received SMM Executive Officer and Director of General Affairs Ryoichi Manabe who presented a letter from SMM President Nobumasa Kemori who expressed deep sympathy for the heavy damaged caused by the typhoon and indicated SMM\u2019s intention to donate to the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Manabe cited SMM\u2019s substantial business interests in the Philippines and the valuable contribution of their Filipino employees to their business. Minister Jamoralin expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the Philippines for SMM\u2019s generous contribution.<\/p>\n<p>Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd, was established in 1950 and is a leading producer of copper, gold, nickel and other non-ferrous metals in Japan. SMM\u2019s interests in the Philippines are in cooperation with the Philippine firm, Nickel Asia Corporation.
