Manguerra.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>01 September 2009 &#8211; Tokyo.<\/em> <strong>The  University of the Philippines College of Law<\/strong> outshined top universities from the People\u2019s Republic of China (Renmin University), Indonesia (Padjadjaran University and Parahyangan Catholic University), Japan (Kyoto University and Tokyo University), Nepal (Kathmandu School of Law), Singapore (National University of Singapore), Thailand (Thammasat University) and Vietnam (Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam), to win the top prize at the prestigious <strong>Asia  Cup 2009 International Law Moot Court Competition<\/strong> hosted by the Ministry of  <strong>Foreign Affairs of Japan on 24-25 August 2009<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Asia Cup is a prime event in the field of international law moot court competition and has offered outstanding opportunities to promote good fellowship among the representatives from different Asian countries.\u00a0 It has gained growing recognition as international cooperation in the realm of human rights education.\u00a0 Since 1999, the Philippines has won the Asia Cup seven times: in 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2009 represented by the University of the Philippines; and in 1999, 2002 and 2008 represented by the Ateneo De Manila University.<\/p>\n<p>The 2009 Philippine Team, composed of UP Law students Daniel Sigfreid Corpuz, Marie Michelle Go and Darwin Ocampo, was adjudged overall champion and awarded the Foreign Minister\u2019s Award.\u00a0 The team also won the Best Memorial Award for the best written pleading.\u00a0 Daniel Sigfreid Corpuz and Marie Michelle Go were awarded the Best Oralist and Third Best Oralist, respectively.\u00a0 The Team was coached to victory by Professor Rowena Daroy-Morales.<\/p>\n<p>On 27 August 2009, the Philippine Team was welcomed to the Embassy by Consul General Sulpicio M. Confiado, who offered his congratulations on behalf of Ambassador Domingo L.
