Philippine Embassy Celebrates Philippine Chairmanship of ASEAN@50

27 March 2017 – Charge d’Affaires a.i. Eduardo Martin R. Meñez hosted a lunch reception for some 100 guests to celebrate Philippine Chairmanship of ASEAN on its 50th Year at the Hikari Room, Imperial Hotel Tokyo. The reception was graced by the presence of esteemed guests headed by the Hon. Hirofumi Nakasone (Member of the House of Councillors and President of the Japan-ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Exchange Group), Hon. Natsuo Yamaguchi, (President of the Komeito Party and Member of the House of Councillors), Deputy Minister Takeo Akiba (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), H.E. Singaporean Ambassador Chin Siat Yoon (ASEAN Committee in Tokyo), Governor Akira Kondoh (Japan Bank for International Cooperation) and Secretary-General Masataka Fujita (ASEAN-Japan Centre).

From the Philippine side, the reception was attended by the high-level Philippine Delegation to the First Philippines-Japan Infrastructure and Economic Cooperation Meeting headed by Secretary of Finance Hon. Carlos Dominguez, Secretary of Public Works & Highways Hon. Mark Villar, Secretary of Budget & Management Hon. Benjamin Diokno, Secretary of Energy Hon. Alfonso Cusi, National Economic & Development Authority Director-General Hon. Ernesto Pernia, Senator and Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Hon. Alan Peter Cayetano.

CDA Meñez, in his remarks, stated that the celebration hopes to emphasize the Philippines’ aspiration to espouse the theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World” and to pursue the six thematic priorities for the year namely – a people-oriented and people-centered ASEAN; peace and stability in the region; maritime security and cooperation; inclusive innovation and growth; ASEAN resiliency; and ASEAN as a model of regionalism and as a global player. END
