Online Financial Literacy Seminar on Retail Dollar Bonds: Celebrate Victory and Humanity Through Nation-Building

The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, in coordination with the Bureau of Treasury (BTR), Nagoya PCG, and Osaka PCG, hosted an Online Financial Literacy Seminar on Retail Dollar Bonds on 12 August 2021.

The seminar, conducted with National Treasurer Rosalia V. De Leon, introduced the first retail dollar bond offering by BTR. With the theme “Celebrating Victory and Humanity,” which is in line with the Philippine History Month, the online seminar encouraged Kababayans, long been considered as “bagong bayani” for their contributions to the nation, to actively participate in nation-building with their investment on dollar bonds.

The seminar introduced RDBs, which are USD-dominated instruments that provide retail investors the opportunity to invest in a low-risk investment security, with a minimum investment of USD 100 and no fees involved.

Since RDBs are denominated in USD, they allow investors to diversify their investments and reduce overall exposure to risk. RDBs are also a way for Filipinos to take part in nation-building as proceeds raised from RDBs will be directed towards the country’s priority programs.

The online seminar also discussed the convenient subscription options open to investors. Aside from over-the-counter transactions, the BTR is looking to continue its digital push and explore the suitability of previous online channels such as its Online Ordering Platform, Bonds.PH, and the Overseas Filipino Bank Mobile Banking Application.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V shared that Philippine investors based in Japan are among the second highest investors among Filipinos and Filipinas abroad on the bond campaign of the Philippine Government.

He also recognized the hope and inspiration brought by the participation of Filipino athletes in the Olympics, and urged Filipinos in Japan to continue supporting the athletes competing at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Consul General Celeste Vinzon-Balatbat from Nagoya PCG and Consul General Voltaire D. Mauricio from Osaka PCG also participated in the online seminar.
