PHL Embassy in Tokyo Receives Cash Donation from AEON Co. Ltd. for Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) victims

Ambassador Lopez receives voluntary cash donation from AEON Co. Ltd and AEON 1% Club Board Chairman Naoki Hayashi

The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo received a ¥ 10 million (approximately PHP 5 million) voluntary cash donation on 11 November 2013 from officials of AEON Co. Ltd as humanitarian assistance for those affected by Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) in the Philippines.

Along with some Embassy officials, Ambassador Manuel M. Lopez met with AEON 1% Chairman of the Board, Naoki Hayashi, AEON Credit Service Co. Ltd. President Kazuhide Kamitani and MINISTOP President and Representative Director Naoyuki Miyashita. AEON Co. Ltd. and AEON 1% Club Chairman Naoki Hayashi expressed his deep condolences and solidarity with the Philippines, especially to those in the central regions, for the unprecedented damage and loss of lives brought about by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), reputed to be the strongest storm so far ever to hit landfall.

Ambassador Lopez thanked Chairman Hayashi and the AEON Co. Ltd. Group for their generous and timely contribution. He also expressed his appreciation for AEON Co. Ltd. for their constant support for and solidarity with the Filipino people. AEON Co. Ltd has always been one of the first Japanese corporations to contribute to Philippine disaster relief efforts. AEON Co. Ltd has given ¥10 millionin cash donations in 2009 and 2011 for Typhoons Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) and Sendong (international name: Washi) and ¥3 million in 2012 for Typhoon Pablo (international name: Bopha) respectively. Ambassador Lopez also recognized Japan’s and the international community’s immediate and timely response from its public and private sectors in response in the wake of this super typhoon.
