Philippines Cops Championship Trophy at 2014 ASEAN Embassies’ Golf Tourney

TEAM PHILIPPINES headed by Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez emerged as overall Champions yet again in the Team Category of the ASEAN Committee-Tokyo (ACT) Golf Tournament 2014 held last September 6 at the Okabe Chisan Country Club in Yamazaki, Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture.

Playing under double Peoria scoring rules, Team Philippines posted an average score of 75 to best the other participating ASEAN Teams. Prior to this latest feat, Team Philippines had also been overall champions in the 2011 and 2012 editions of this annual golf tournament, which brings together golfers representing the 10 ASEAN Embassies in Japan.

Ambassador Lopez led a team composed of Embassy officials and Japan-based Filipino golf enthusiasts. The other team members are Philippine Embassy Tourism Attaché Valentino Cabansag, Mr. Johnny Dee of Ueda Toso company and President of the Pinoy Golf Association in Japan (PGAJ), Mr. Hermie Marquez and spouse Ms. Rose Marquez, Mr. Denmark Musngi, Mr. George Astilla, Mr. Agustin Granada and Mr. Jefferson Cantero.

The event was jointly hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy, in partnership with the event’s annual supporter, the International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS) headed by Japanese businessman and philanthropist Dr. Haruhisa Handa.

Apart from winning the overall championship, members of Team Philippines also won a number of individual player awards courtesy of Mr. Musngi, who took the trophies for longest drive, lowest gross score, and nearest-to-the-pin. END
