Philippine Embassy in Tokyo Receives Donation Pledge from City of Kitakyushu

On 25 January 2012, Ambassador Manuel M. Lopez welcomed officials from the City of Kitakyushu who presented the City’s pledge of ¥1 million in cash (approximately P543 Thousand) as humanitarian assistance for those affected by Typhoon Sendong in the Philippines.

Ambassador Lopez met with Mr. Satoshi Maruyama, Chief Executive Officer of the Kitakyushu City Promotion Headquarters in Tokyo, and Mr. Shinichiro Tsubaki, the Manager of the same office. Mr. Maruyama presented the letter of Mr. Kenji Kitahashi, Mayor of the City of Kitakyushu, expressing “deepest condolences to the many lives lost” and offering “heartfelt prayers to those who have been affected.”
Ambassador Lopez expressed appreciation for the generosity of the people of the City of Kitakyushu.

Kitakyushu is Kyushu’s northernmost international city with a population of about a million people. It borders on the main island of Japan across the Kanmon Strait.
