Embassy Conducts Consular Outreach Mission, OAV Registration and OFW Assistance in Okinawa


18 October 2014 – The Philippine Embassy extended its services to Filipino communities in distant localities with a Consular Outreach Mission, Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) Registration and OFW Assistance in Okinawa Prefecture on 17 and 18 October 2014 (photo above).

The Consular Team processed 178 passport applications and 3 notarizations and provided other consular and legal consultations. The OAV Team also registered 100 OFW voters for the May 2016 National Elections. Labor Attaché Ma. Luz Talento and Welfare Officer Liwayway Ilo of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Tokyo also joined the Embassy Team to provide assistance to OFWs, consultations on employment matters and advice for prospective employers in Okinawa of Filipino workers.

The Team was headed by Vice Consul Andrea Leycano, who is also the designated COMELEC Administering Officer. Honorary Consul General Asako Alarcon of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Okinawa and her staff extended full support and community coordination for the efficient delivery of Embassy services to the Filipinos many of whom came from distant islands in the Okinawa Prefecture. The Consular, OAV and POLO services were conducted in the offices of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in the Alion Bldg., Ginowan City, Okinawa. Later, Vice Consul Leycano represented the Embassy in the 48th Anniversary Celebration of the Filipino Community in Ryuku Island on 19 October 2014.
