Minato City Donates ¥2.9M for Typhoon Ondoy Disaster Relief Efforts

08 October 2009. The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo received yesterday a donation of ¥2.7 million (approximately US$30,000.00) from Minato City Mayor Masaaki Takeda and ¥200,000 (approximately US$2,268.00) from Minato City Assembly President Yukio Shimada as humanitarian assistance for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy  in the Philippines.

Charge d’ Affaires Gina Jamoralin met  Mayor Takeda, Assembly President Shimada and several other Minato City officials, who expressed sincere sympathies from the people of the city for Filipinos who were affected by the typhoon.

Mayor Takeda noted that as Japan is a country that often experiences typhoons and earthquakes, the Japanese understand the Philippine’s situation very well. He expressed his hope for the Philippines’ swift recovery from the typhoon , as well as its future success and prosperity.

Charge d’ Affaires Jamoralin thanked Mayor Takeda and the Minato City government  for their generous donation. She also expressed appreciation for the City’s continued support of the Embassy. Tokyo’s Minato City is host to the Philippine Embassy and other 78 embassies. Around 22,000 foreigners reside in the city, which represents one-tenth of its total population.
