11 May 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and Kanepackaging Philippines Inc., a Japanese corporation based in the Philippines engaged in the manufacturing of packaging and cushioning products, celebrated the success of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, which is to plant 10 Million Mangroves in 10 Years.

Deputy Chief of Mission Eduardo Martin R. Meñez, in his remarks, thanked Kanepackaging Philippines, Inc. and underscored the importance of mangroves in the ecosystem – protecting land from floods and erosion, maintaining water quality and helping produce oxygen and fresh air – and in Philippine cultural heritage – the branches of the mangrove serve as the roofs of traditional Filipino houses called “nipa” hut.

The ceremony ended with Kanepackaging Philippines, Inc. handing over a Certificate of Pledge to build Day Care Centers in the Philippines, in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development. END
