Philippine Embassy Celebrates “Buwan ng Wika”

14-18 August 2017 – The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo celebrated the National Language Month (“Buwan ng Wika”) with a host of activities for children ages 3-12 years old. Activities included the singing of “Lupang Hinirang” and “Bahay Kubo,” dancing of “Itik-Itik,” drawing/coloring of the Philippine flag and watching animated versions of “Ang Alamat ng Aso’t Pusa” and “Si Lea, ang Batang Langgam.”

A special storytelling session of “Matandang Matabang Pusa” written by NCCA Chair Virgilio S. Almario and other books donated by Adarna House, Inc. was also conducted by a Filipino teacher based in Tokyo, Ms. Kathy Pacao.

The week-long activities aimed to remind the students of the importance of the Filipino language.

Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V, in his message during the Graduation Ceremony, echoed the famous words of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, “Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit sa hayop at malansang isda; kaya ating pagyamaning kusa, gaya ng inang sa atin ay nagpala.” END
