Sumitomo Corporation Donates ¥15 Million To Yolanda Victims

Ambassador Manuel M. Lopez and Philippine Embassy officials receive the donation of Sumitomo Corporation from Senior Managing Executive Officer Yasuyuki Abe and Assistant General Manager Kiyoaki Tachizawa

TOKYO-27 November 2013. The Sumitomo Corporation called on Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez on 26 November 2013 to pledge a donation of 15 million Japanese yen for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (International Code Name: Haiyan) which devastated central Philippines earlier this month.

Mr. Yasuyuki Abe, Sumitomo Corporation’s Senior Managing Executive Officer, CSO and General Manager of the Corporate and Planning Group, and Mr. Kiyoaki Tachizawa, Assistant General Manager, Asia and Oceania Team for the Global Strategy and Coordination department personally handed over a certificate of donation signed by Sumitomo President Corporation and CEO Kunihara Nakamura.

Of the total donation, 7.5 million will be coursed through the Philippine Embassy’s Disaster Donation Account. The other 7.5 million will go to the account of Japan Platform, a Japanese non-profit organization, to be directly sent to the affected areas.

Ambassador Lopez conveyed his gratitude to Sumitomo Corporation and noted the strong partnership between the company and the Philippines. Sumitomo Corporation has business interests in agriculture, infrastructure development, mining, real estate development, financial services and other sectors in the Philippines.
