Advisory on Recent Developments in North Korea

15 August 2017 –Insofar as recent developments involving North Korean activities that may affect residents in Japan, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, together with the Philippine Consulate General in Osaka, would like to assure the Filipino community that it is closely monitoring the situation and would like to advise Kababayans, particularly those residing over western Japan’s Shimane, Hiroshima and Kochi prefectures, to remain alert, monitor the news and take the necessary precautions. Kababayans are also reminded to be guided by the procedures established by the local Japanese authorities, as these will be the most immediate and accessible in the event of an emergency.

As part of the regular updating of the Philippine Embassy’s contingency plans covering possible scenarios requiring mobilization of the Filipino community, the Kababayans are requested to establish points of contact by registering with the Embassy via its website at or personally should they be visiting the office in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Filipino community leaders are also encouraged to register their organizations by visiting the Office of the Consul General or emailing for the Filipino community registration forms.
